All foreigners intending to start work in Singapore must obtain a valid work visa to do so. There are many types of employment passes, each with specific rules and regulations governed by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

What Should A Company Check Before Applying For A Work Pass for Their Employees?
First, you need to determine what type of pass is suitable for your employee. The Work Permit (WP) allows semi-skilled migrant workers from approved source countries to work in specific sectors. Mid-level skilled staff who earn at least S$2,500 per month and meet the assessment criteria can get an S Pass. In contrast, foreign professionals, managers, and executives who get a fixed monthly salary of at least S$4,500 and have relevant qualifications are eligible to get an E Pass. All passes are generally valid for two years.
Check whether your company has a foreign worker quota after checking the visa options. This restriction is to control the inflow of overseas workers. All companies in Singapore should adhere to the Fair Consideration Framework (FCF). Do note there is no foreign worker quota associated with Employment Pass (EP). It is only applicable for S Pass and Work Permit (WP).
In order to regulate the influx of foreign workers in Singapore, the government has introduced the Foreign Worker Levy. The levy is only applicable to WP as well as S Pass holders. The amount of levy to be paid for each worker is determined by the company sector, the educational qualifications and skills of the workers.
The Employment Act is Singapore’s primary labour law. It provides the basic terms and conditions for employees covered by the Act. Employment Act was created to provide guidelines and regulations for both employers and employees as well as offer protection to them.
Employment contracts are essential for both employee and employer. Ensure that the agreement includes details such as the employee’s responsibilities, health insurance policy, sick days, annual leave days, possible reasons for their employment termination, and others.
All Singapore companies must follow certain legal obligations every year regardless of their size or business structure. To comply with Singapore law, a company must meet all the statutory requirements set by Acra and IRAS.
